DU expels one student, suspends 108 others

The disciplinary committee of Dhaka University on Wednesday expelled a student and suspended 108 students – both of affiliated institutions and of the university – for different terms for malpractice in examinations, eve-teasing, anti-university behaviour and consuming drugs.

The decision came from a meeting of the disciplinary committee of the university with vice-chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

University proctor Professor AKM Golam Rabbani confirmed the matter and said that the decision would be sent to the syndicate that would pass it in its next meeting.

The expelled student is Jim Najmul, a resident student of Masterda Surja Sen Hall of the university.

The disciplinary committee took the disciplinary action against Jim Nazmul as the allegation of eve-teasing against him was proved.

Besides, a total of 108 students were suspended for various periods on charges of malpractice in examinations, eve-teasing, anti-university behaviour and consumption of alcohol.

DU proctor Professor AKM Golam Rabbani said that the disciplinary committee punished 109 students of the university and its affiliated colleges for different periods.

'Among them, Jim Najmul has been permanently expelled on charge of eve teasing. The rest have been suspended for different periods,' he said.
