Barisal, Apr 19 (Just News): At least 14 people were injured as police allegedly charged baton on the activists of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) in Barisal city today.
A group of BSD leaders and activists along with rickshaw pullers under the banner of “Battery-run Auto-rickshaw Owners and Workers Sangram Committee” staged demonstration in front of the city corporation office around 1:00pm demanding licence for the battery-run auto-rickshaws.
Police charged batons severely on them near Barisal Judge Court when the demonstrations were moving towards BSD party office, said Badrudozza Saikat, a Basrial city unit leader of BSD.
He claimed that some 14 people including BSD men sustained injuries as the law enforcers attacked them without any provocation. He also claimed that six of their men, including Bangladesh Samajtantrik Chhatra Front president Imran Habib Bhuiyan, were detained.
Assistant Commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police Shahnaz Begum said six female members of police were also injured.
Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ruhul Amin told reporters that the law enforcers just dispersed them when the agitators swooped on the policemen.
