Dhaka, Apr 24 (Just News): The fifth anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse, the worst-ever tragedy in the country's multi-billion dollar ready-made garment (RMG) industry, was observed on Tuesday.

Family members and relatives of the victims and different trade and workers' organisations placed wreaths at the Rana Plaza site, remembering the victims.

Local MP Dr Md Enamur Rahman also placed a wreath at the site.

The family members and relatives of the victims broke into tears demanding capital punishment of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana.

Discussions, rallies and milad mahfil were held while processions brought out here and in the capital on the occasion.

A milad mahfil was held at the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Bhaban around 5 pm.

Besides, the BGMEA authorities along with the relatives of the Rana Plaza victims went to Jurain Graveyard and placed wreaths in the morning.

A milad mahfil was held at Adhar Chandra High School field.

On this day in 2013, Rana Plaza, an illegally constructed building at Savar housing five garment factories, came down crashing, killing 1,175 people and injuring over 2,000 others.

Earlier on Monday, different workers' bodies lit candles in front of the Rana Plaza site commemorating the victims.

According to a survey conducted by Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), some 159 workers were still missing.
