Police charge baton at Sramik Dal’s rally, 10 hurt in Khulna

At least 10 activists Sramik Dal were injured as police charged batons during a gathering marking May Day on Station Road in Khulna city on Monday.

Police also detained member secretary of Khulna metropolitan unit Sramik Dal Shafiqul Islam Shafi and member Islam Khalifa.

Denying the allegation, Khulna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Al Mamun said Sramik Dal activists were holding the programme blocking the road without taking permission, causing disruption of vehicular movement. So they dispersed them.

After the incident, Khulna Metropolitan BNP Convener Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mana at a press briefing at the party office in the afternoon said according to the pre-announced program on the occasion of May Day, the city and district labour parties organized a rally in front of the party office in the morning.

They informed the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) seven days ago about the programme.

He alleged that police personnel were deployed at the entrance of the BNP office since morning and barred the leaders and activists from coming to the party office.

At one stage, police charged baton at the party gathering at Khulna Railway Station road. Two leaders of the labour party were detained and several activists were injured during that time.
