Death toll from Narayanganj re-rolling mill explosion rises to 4

Three more workers who were burnt in an explosion at a re-rolling mill of Bhulta Gauchia area under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj on Thursday afternoon died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Friday.

The deceased are Ilias Ali, 35, of Itna upazila in Kishoreganj, Md Nayan, 20, and Alamgir Hossain, 33.

Elias died at about 12:15am on Friday, Nayan died on Friday morning and Alamgir died at abount noon, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia.

Ilias sustained 97 per cent burns, Niyon received 95 per cent burns while Alamgir received 90 per jcent burns, he said.

With the three, the death toll in the explosion has increased to four.

Another worker, Shankar, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

Three other victims are now undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition, said Bachchu Mia.

The injured workers are Jewel, 25, Golam Rabbi, 35, and Ibrahim, 35.

Jewel sustained 97 per cent burns, Rabbi 95 per cent, while Ibrahim sustained 28 per cent burns, said officials at the hospital.

The explosion took place on Thursday when workers were melting iron at the re-rolling mill in Rupganj. Seven workers were injured in the explosion

Later, they were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where Shankar, one of the injured, was declared dead after arrival.
