Dhaka, Apr 29 (Just News): There is no magic solution to Rohingya crisis, the visiting United Nations’ Security Council delegation said today after paying a much-anticipated visit to refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.
All the 15 members of the delegation voiced commonly that it is “a severe crisis”, but also underlined that “there is no magic solution to it” while briefing journalists in Ukhia upazila.
Prior to the briefing, the delegation visited Kutupalong refugee camp and Tombru border in Bandarban’s Naikhyangchhari to assess first-hand the plight of the refugees there.
Then, they were taken to a briefing room where the local administration of Cox’s Bazar and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) debriefed them on the crisis Bangladesh has been handling since August last year.
Rohingya population flocked to meet the delegation – five permanent members from China, France, Russia, UK and the US, and 10 other non-permanent members – at Kutupalong camp, wielding posters and demanding safe repatriation back to Myanmar.
According to schedule, the delegation was expected to return to a hotel for a short break before wrapping up their visit and head back to Dhaka around 3:30pm.
So far, at least 700,000 Rohingya people have fled into Myanmar since violence escalated following a military crackdown in Rakhine state back in August last year.
The UN Security Council visit is held on high esteem as Bangladesh hopes it to lend out assistance towards repatriating the mass population of Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar.
