Pass rate down, GPA 5 achievers up in SSC exams

Dhaka, May 6 (Just News): The results of this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations were published across the country on Sunday showing 77.77 pass percentage under the 10 educational boards.

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the copies of overall results to prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday morning at her official residence Gonobhaban in the city.

The prime minister unveiled the result digitally, which will be available online after 2:00pm.

The students can get the results from their respective school or by visiting www.educationboardresults.gov.bd.

While handing over the result to the premier, Nahid said the overall pass rate in the SSC and its equivalent examinations is 77.77 percent this year, which was 80.35 percent in 2017.

He said a total of 110,629 students achieved the highest GPA-5 this year. But last year the number of GPA-5 achievers was 104,761 under the 10 education boards including eight general ones.

This year girls performed better comparing to boys in the SSC and its equivalent examinations as the pass rate among boys is 76.71 per cent, while among girls it is 78.85 per cent.

A total of 2,026,574 candidates sat for the SSC and its equivalent examinations this year which was 1,718,962 in 2017.

The SSC and its equivalent examinations began across the country on 1 February and ended on 26 February while the practical exams continued until 4 March.

Chairmen of the 10 education boards handed the copies of results of their respective boards to the prime minister.

Later, Sheikh Hasina exchanged views with students and teachers of two districts - Barishal and Bandarban-through videoconferencing.
