Dhaka, May 12 (Just News): US Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green will travel to Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand from May 13 to May 23.
USAID Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia Gloria Steele and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Ambassador Mark Storella will accompany Administrator Green as part of the delegation.
Diplomatic sources said Mark Green in his first leg of three-nation visit will arrive in Dhaka tomorrow (Monday, May 14) afternoon and visit Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday (May 15).
During his visit he will hold discussion with high government officials and stakeholders on various issues, including the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
In addition, the important purpose of his visit is also to discuss with government policy makers about the implementation of the President's Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Although Bangladesh sign agreement with the China on its One Belt One Road initiative, but US want Bangladesh to join with the Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Dhaka has not given any commitment on Washington but sought detail of the strategy for study.
While in Bangladesh, according to the US Embassy press release, Administrator Green plans to visit several sites where the US Government is providing humanitarian assistance to displaced Rohingya and affected host communities.
He is also expected to meet the press and media both in Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka to inform the outcome of his visit. He is due to depart Dhaka on May 17 for Myanmar.
In Myanmar, the Administrator will meet with civil-society representatives, students, and youth leaders, as well as Government of Myanmar officials to discuss steps needed to address the crises in Rakhine State and violence in other areas of the country.
Later, Administrator Green will visit Bangkok from May 21 to 22 to meet with USAID Mission Directors from across Asia to discuss the implementation of the President's Indo-Pacific Strategy.
