Students of United International University (UIU), a private university, on Monday afternoon staged a protest by blocking a road in Natun Bazar, Dhaka, demanding reform in the government job quota system.
Several hundred students had gathered, chanting various slogans, halting vehicular movement in and around the area.
Police officers were deployed in the area in response to the protest. They were attempting to control the situation.
Rajon Kumar Saha, assistant police commissioner, Badda Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said: “UIU students are protesting against discrimination in government jobs by blocking the road.
