Khaleda Zia gets bail in 2 cases, denied in 1

Dhaka, May 28 (Just News): BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia today secured High Court bail in two criminal cases filed in Comilla and was denied the same in another case of Narail.

It will not mean release for the BNP chief, who has been imprisoned for four months now, as she is being shown arrested in some other cases.

The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan passed the orders following two petitions filed by Khaleda.

One of the cases in which she secured bail was filed on charge of vandalism at Chouddagram, Comilla, in January 2015. The other was filed over killing eight people and injuring 25-26 others by setting fire on a passenger bus in Chouddagram on February 2, 2015.

Khaleda Zia was denied bail in the defamation case filed with a Narail court on September 24, 2015, over making a statement on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the number of freedom fighters, because what the High Court said “the petition was not properly moved”.

Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Bashirullah said the government will move appeals before the Supreme Court against the High Court bail order in the two cases.
