‘Nation losing mental balance’

Dhaka, Jun 2 (Just News): Human rights activist Sultana Kamal on Saturday ridiculed the present government for resorting to ‘only one means of solving problems’ - gunfights that left more than 100 dead recently.

“Such situation arises only when there is deficiency in good governance and accountability. This nation is losing mental balance,” she told a protest rally.

Sultana Kamal, also a former caretaker govenment adviser, pointed out that there is hardly any value of human life and the people are becoming indifferent about this reality.

Twenty four civic groups organised the rally demanding ‘trial of killers of environmental activist Uttam, against anarchy in road transport and demanding a halt to killing of people’ in front of the National Museum.
Sultana Kamal said as many as 15 to16 people are being killed in road crashes every day.

“People have been desperate to go ahead and such an unhealthy competition has brought us here - we all are paying for this,” she added.

Rasheda K Chowdhury, another former caretaker government adviser, lamented that the killing of the people in road accidents does not touch the policymakers.

“Those for whom we are paying taxes have failed to guarantee normal death,” she said and called for people’s protest against this.

The rally was also addressed by chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda, general secretary of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon Abdul Matin and its joint secretary Iqbal Habib.

They said it is possible to reduce road accidents by restoring discipline in the transport sector.
