Dhaka, Jun 4 (Just News): Ambassadors of the European Union countries on Monday called on the government to investigate deaths of drug suspects during the ongoing anti-narcotics drive.
In a statement, they obliquely referred to the killings in the ‘gunfights’, which were described by the international media as Filipino president Duterte-styled murder.
“We expect the authorities to ensure that all incidents involving the deaths of alleged criminal suspects are investigated fully and in accordance with due processes,” the ambassadors said.
In the statement, they mentioned that the high level of casualties and reports of the use of excessive force in the drive against narcotics, however, is reported to have resulted in over 120 deaths since 4 May.
The diplomats reminded Dhaka that Bangladesh is committed to upholding rule of law and ensuring that all law enforcement actions are carried out in accordance with the law and in adherence to international standards and norms, including with appropriate safeguards over the use of force.
