Two ‘drug peddlers’ killed in ‘gunfights’

Dhaka, Jun 15 (Just News): Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in reported gunfights in Gosairhat upazila of Shariatpur and Shorsha upazila in Jeshore early Friday.

With this, 113 people were killed in 'gunfights' with members of law enforcement agencies while 35 bodies of suspected drug traders were recovered after reported gun battles between rival groups during the countrywide anti-narcotic drives since May 15.

In Shariatpur, the suspected drug dealer was killed in a gunfight between their cohorts and detectives at Bhadrachand area.

The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin Bahga, 50, son of Moslem Bagha of Char Jushirgaon in the upazila.

On information, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:30 am, said Abdul Momen, police superintendent of Shariatpur.Sensing the presence of the DB police, Ruhul along with his associates opened fire on them that forced the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence.

After a brief gun battle, police arrested bullet-hit Ruhul and took him to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 3 am.
Ruhul was wanted in six drug-related cases, said police.

Meanwhile, in Jeshore, another man was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug dealers at Harikhali area of Sharshah upazila.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, said M Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station.

Two groups of drug dealers were locked in a gunfight while they rushed to the spot, he said.

Sensing presence of law enforcers the drug dealers fled, later, police found the bullet hit body of a man there, he added.

The body was sent to Jashore 250 bedded General Hospital for autopsy.
