Aziz Ahmed new chief of Bangladesh Army

Dhaka, Jun 18 (Just News): Lieutenant General Aziz Ahmed has been named the new chief of Bangladesh Army.

He will take the new office from June 25 afternoon, said a gazette notification of the defence ministry today.

He would also be promoted to the rank of general on that day, according to the gazette notification signed by Joint Secretary Md Abu Bakar Siddiq of the defence ministry.

Gen Aziz will replace Gen Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq.

General Aziz was the director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from December 5, 2012 to November 16, 2016.

He previously served as general officer commanding in 33 Infantry Division in Comilla cantonment of the Bangladesh Army, said a press release.

As a commander, he led one artillery unit, a BGB battalion, a BGB sector, two artillery brigades and an infantry. He also served duties in different vital posts in four artillery regiments.

He was an observer for the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM) and a military adviser to the force commander of the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).
