Profession of physicians criminalised

Dhaka, July 9 (Just News): The High Court on Monday said the noble profession of physicians has been criminalised and people are being suffered for a few criminals.

If there is any negligence on one’s part, one has to be punished, said the court referring to the strike of physicians and private hospital owners in Chittagong following a drive of Rapid Action Battalion to two private hospitals.

‘To err is human. You can commit error too. But it is injustice to call strike to justify the error. It makes us concerned,’ said the court.

The court also expressed concern at no action on the part of the government discussing the stakeholders about the criminalisation of the profession.

The court was informed that the drives at Chittagong hospitals were carried out at the concern of the directorate general of health services.

The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader made the observations while hearing a ruling in which the director general of health services was asked to explain the damage of eyes of patients at a Impact Masudul Huq Memorial Community Health Centre in Chuadanga.

ICDDR,B examination found bacteria in the medicines used by the hospital for eye treatment but the report of the directorate general of health services found nothing suspicious and found no negligence on the part of physicians .

The court also asked directorate general of health services of complete its report on Chudanga case.
