EC ignores deploying troops in city polls to favour ruling party: BNP

Dhaka, July 25 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday said that the Election Commission repeatedly ignores the demand for deployment of army in city corporation polls to 'unjustly' take the polls in favour of the ruling party.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the remarks at a news briefing at the party's central office alleging that key 'mastermind' of present 'election-gate scandal' is incumbent 'subservient Election Commission'.

He said expectation of a free and neutral election is futile.

Rizvi said the Election Commission is legitimising to the election terrorism of the government and irregularities in elections one after another.

He said one day the commission will have to pay heavy price for making new models of election one after another.

Rizvi said the ruling party's MPs and leaders entitled with minister status are conducting electioneering occupying roads and highways and violating election code of conduct.

He said the Election Commission is yet to take any action after lodging complaints to this end.

He said public prosecutors, additional public prosecutor and special public prosecutors are taking part in election processions in favour of the ruling party mayor candidate in Barisal city. This is violation of election code of conduct, he added.

Rizvi alleged that widespread irregularities and violation of election code of conduct are taking place in Sylhet and Rajshahi city polls.

He said government officials are campaigning in favour of boat, election symbol of Awami League, in the two city polls violating election code of conduct.
