4 more killed in alleged gunfights in 3 dists

Dhaka, July 27 (Just News): Four people were killed in separate incidents of what the policemen and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members called gunfights in Cumilla, Sirajganj and Rajbari districts early Friday.

Among them, three people were killed in Cumilla and Sirajganj districts while another one was killed in Rajbari.

Those who were killed in Cumilla and Sirajganj districts were robbers while the one killed in Rajbari was a member of an ‘outlawed party’, claimed the law enforcing agencies, reports UNB.

In Cumilla, two people were killed in a reported gun battle with Detective Branch (DB) of police on Batakandi-Asmania road in Titash upazila early Friday.

The deceased are Al Amin alias Kausar, son of a certain Khorshed Alam of Maniknagar village in Titash upazila and Ershad Mia, son of one Nurul Islam of Kongshanagar village in Burichang upazila.

Tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30am, said Shakhawat Hossain, additional superintendent of police in Cumilla.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcement, the robbers opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight, he said.

Later, police recovered the bodies of Al Amin and Ershad.

Police also recovered two firearms and sharp weapons from the spot, the additional superintendent added.

In Sirajganj, Hazrat Ali, 35, a suspected robber, was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in Paikpara of Ullapara upazila early Friday.

Tipped off, a team of police went to the spot around 3:00am, said Sakibul Islam Khan, additional superintendent of police and commanding officer of RAB-12.

Sensing presence of the force, the robbers opened fire on the RAB men, prompting them to take action, he said.

Later, the RAB members recovered the body of Ali and seized two shutter guns, 14 cartridges, one axe, a sharp weapon and three bullets from the spot Sakibul added.

In Rajbari, Lalon Hawladar, 42, second-in-command of Julhash Bahini of LalPataka, a faction of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party, hailing from Sujanagar upazila in Pabna district was killed in a reported gunfight with police in the Sluice Gate area of Pangsha upazila early Friday.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 4:00am, said Fazlul Karim, senior assistant superintendent of Rajbari police (Pangsha circle).

Sensing presence of the policemen, the outlawed party men opened fire on the law enforcement, forcing them to fire back, he said.

At one stage, police recovered the body of Lalon, who was wanted in four cases, from the spot, Fazlul added.

Police recovered two firearms and six cartridges from the scene, he added.
