Students’ protests spread across Dhaka

Dhaka, July 31 (Just News): Angry students of different schools and colleges in Dhaka taken to the streets for the straight third day on Tuesday and blocked roads protesting at the death of two of their fellows at Kurmitola on Sunday.

They blockaded Farmgate intersection this morning demanding safe roads.

Several hundred students of Government Science College and Tejgaon Government Boys High School blockaded the key Farmgate intersection around 11:00am.

They echoed a nine-point demand that has been circulating among the students since yesterday, which includes resignation of shipping minister Shahjahan Khan – a transport leader who smiled when asked about the deaths of the two students.

The students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College also gathered at Kurmitola and demonstrated seeking justice to the death of their fellows. Police in riot gears dispersed them charging batons.

Students of Dhaka Commerce College and some other nearby schools and colleges have taken position at Mirpur 1 roundabout and blocked the roads there. More students are joining them as time passes.

The students, however, allowed vehicles carrying school going students.

Students of different schools and colleges also went out on demonstrations at Mirpur section 13 and 14 and police are trying to remove them from the streets.

At Science Laboratory crossing, students of Dhaka City College and Ideal Collge blocked Mirpur Road for the second day. They are chanting slogans seeking justice to the deaths of two college students.

Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College’s students —Dia Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib — died on Sunday as a bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan ploughed through a crowd, while competing with another bus of the same company, on Airport Road.
