Doctors examine Khaleda Zia’s health reports

Dhaka, Oct 7 (Just News): A five-member medical board has examined BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's medical test reports, says Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) chief.

“The medical board has visited Khaleda Zia and examined all reports. Her treatment will be continued like before. The board will visit her again tomorrow,” hospital Director Brig Gen Md Abdullah-Al-Harun told a press briefing on Sunday.

Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Dr Mamun was also present with the medical board, he said.

Former chairman of department of medicine, BSMMU, Prof Dr Md Abdul Jalil Chowdhury leads the board. Other members include: physical medicine department Associate Prof Badrunnessa Ahmed, department of rheumatology Prof Dr Syed Atiqul Haq, cardiology department Prof Dr Sajal Krishna Banerjee, and former chairman of cardiology department Prof Nakul Kumar Datta.

“We will discuss her [Khaleda Zia’s] health condition with the board. If we need to perform any further examinations, we will let you know,” said Prof Dr Jalil.

Earlier in the day, a four-member delegation of pro-BNP lawyers, led by Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed, met the BSMMU director to ensure Khaleda Zia’s treatment as per the High Court directives.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to BSMMU, on Saturday, in line with a High Court order.

On October 4, the High Court directed the government to immediately move the BNP chief from Dhaka’s Old Central Jail to BSMMU—for treatment and to form a five-member medical board over the matter.

The former three-time prime minister has been in prison since she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust case on February 8.

On September 16, a different government-formed medical board suggested admitting Khaleda to a hospital like BSMMU, although they did not find symptoms of any serious illness during her medical testing.

On April 7, Khaleda had undergone some medical tests at BSMMU Hospital because of her illness.
