Bangladesh slips one step down in Global Competitiveness Index

Dhaka, Oct 17 (Just News): Bangladesh slipped one step down to 103th position among 140 countries in the ranking of the Global Competitiveness Index in 2018 from that of revised 102nd position in 2017.

World Economic Forum on Wednesday released the ranking in its Global Competitiveness Report-2018.

In 2017, Bangladesh was originally ranked at 99th position which is revised to 102th this year due to change in methodology in preparation of the report.

Centre of Policy Dialogue, the local partner of World Economic Forum, released the report at a press conference at CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.

Bangladesh's overall score, however, increased marginally by 0.7 percentage points this year.

But, the country's rank downgraded as other competitive countries achieved improvement at faster rate, said CPD distinguished fellow Mustafizur Rahman.

The report said that Bangladesh's competitiveness has weakened in most of the 12 major indicators like business dynamism and product market development.

On the other hand, it did comparatively better in market size, macroeconomic stability, the report said.
