Investigators find war crimes evidence against former top NSI official

Dhaka, Oct 30 (Just News): Investigators of The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) have found evidence of crimes against humanity against a former additional inspector general of police.

Oahidul Haque, 69, also former acting director general of National Security Intelligence (NSI), was involved in killing of 5000-6000 Bangalees in Rangpur on March 28, 1971, Abdul Hannan Khan, coordinator of the agency told journalists at a press briefing at its Dhanmondi office.

Haque was a member of Pakistan army in 1971, he said.

Haque, son of MS Samsul Haque from Madaripur, was arrested following an arrest warrant issued by ICT-1 on April 24, 2018.

He was put into jail since then.

Sanaul Haque, co- coordination of the agency said, “Oahidul Haque was adjutant of 29 - Cavalry Regiment of Pakistan army during the Liberation War in March and he was transferred to West Pakistan in the next month where he continued his job till 1973.

He was repatriated to Bangladesh in December 1973, and he was sent to forced retirement from Bangladesh army in December 1974.

In October 1976, he was appointed to Bangladesh police force and later Haque become the commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), NSI director and director of the Department of Immigration and Passports under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Sanaul Haque said at the briefing.
