EC revises polls schedule; election Dec 30

Dhaka, Nov 12 (Just News): Election Commission has revised polls schedule, deferring the 11th general election by a week to December 30.

The authorities have fixed November 28 as deadline for filing nomination papers, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda made the announcement at a programme in Dhaka’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre this afternoon.

He said, the revision has been made in consideration of requests made by opposition political parties BNP and others. “We welcome their participation.”

The change comes four days after the Election Commission announced the polls schedule of the 11th parliamentary elections and several opposition parties demanding a delay.

The Election Commission announced the election schedule on November 8. At that time, major opposition parties were undecided on participation.

According to the previous date, the national election – the 11th Jatiya Sangsad polls – was scheduled to be held on December 23.

The last date for filing nomination papers for candidacy was November 19. Scritinisation of the nomination papers were dated for November 22 while the last date for withdrawing candidacy was November 29.
