No atmosphere for fair polls: BNP

Dhaka, Dec 1 (Just News): BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed today alleged that there is no atmosphere for a free, fair and acceptable election in the country.

The BNP leader said this while briefing reporters after a meeting with the Election Commission.

Talking about the present electoral situation in the country, he said, “Law enforcers are arresting BNP leaders and activists on a mass scale and the electoral atmosphere is getting worse.”

The BNP leader also claimed that at least seven possible BNP candidates have been arrested so far and they are not being granted bail from the courts.

BNP candidates cannot even stay at home due to the oppressive stance of the government, he also said.

“Trial courts are now under the control of the government and they (courts) are just reflecting the will of the government,” he said.

“The government is going to implement its blueprint and the EC cannot prevent it,” Moudud said.

Earlier, a BNP delegation led by Moudud Ahmed went to the commission and submitted a series of demands including reshuffle in the civil and police administration.
