Dhaka, Dec 24 (Just News): Two people were killed and more than 30 sustained injuries in separate attacks launched on electioneering campaign in Khagrachari, Shariatpur and Lakshmipur on Monday.

In Khagrachari, two persons died as unidentified attackers opened fire on an election camp of United People’s Democratic Front-backed independent candidate Natun Kumar Chakma at Pujgang of Panchari.

The dead are identified as Chikko Chakma, 24, and construction worker Md Rana, 35.

Nurul Alam, Panchari police officer-in-charge, said, ‘Police and troops rushed to the spot.’ The assailants are yet to be identified, he said.

UPDF leaders blamed the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma) for the attack.

In Shariatpur, BNP candidate for Shariatpur 3 Mia Nuruddin Ahmed sustained injuries in head and neck in an attack launched on his electioneering at Patti in Shariatpur.

Nuruddin was leading a procession towards Shariatpur sadar from Kudalpur in Gosairhat. As it reached Patti, a group of miscreants attacked it with sticks. Party activists took him to a local hospital but Nuruddin’s relatives said they will air lift him to Dhaka.

In Lakshmipur, BNP candidate for Lakshmipur 3 Shahid Uddin Chowdhiry Anni and 30 more were injured in an attack at Shantihat bazar.

Injured Shahid Uddin was given first aid at a local hospital.
