Results show BNP candidates’ votes fall unusually

Dhaka, Dec 31 (Just News): In all the constituencies main opposition BNP candidates votes fell unusually in Sunday’s general election compared to in 2008.

Votes polled by the Jatiya Oikya Front in which BNP is the main component was so low that not many people think it could happen in a fair general election.

BNP did not participate in the voter less general election in 2014.

In 2008, BNP’s Nazimuddin Ahmed won the Lakshmipur 1 constituency getting 74,276 votes while nearest contestant from Awami League got 54,964 votes.

But on Sunday AL’s Anwar Hossain Khan bagged the seat polling 1,85,438 votes while Shahadat Hossain of Liberal Democratic Party polled 3,893 votes as JOF candidate with Paddy Sheaf as his symbol.

In 2008, LDP leader bagged the Chattogram 13 seat polling 82,036 votes and the AL candidate trailed with 61,646 votes.

This time AL’s Saifuzzaman Chowdhury won the Chattogram 13 seat polling 2,43,415 votes, BNP’s Sarwar Jamal Nizam secured the 3rd position getting only 3,153 votes and MA Matin of Bangladesh Islami Front took the 2nd position with 3,794 votes.

In 2008, BNP leader Joinal Abedin bagged the Feni 2 seat polling 1,20,297 votes defeating AL candidate who got 86,713 votes.

This time, the results show that Joinal polled only 5,784 votes while ruling AL’s Nizam Uddin Hazari took the seat with 2,90,668 votes.

In 2008, BNP leader Moudud Ahmed lost the Noakhali 5 seat polling 1,11,204 votes while AL’s Obaidul Quader bagged it getting 1,12,575 votes and according to the unofficial results a difference of 1,371 votes.

This time, according to the results Obaidul Quader took the seat with 2,52,744 votes while Moudud trailed with 10,970 votes a difference of 2,41,774 votes.

In 2008, AL candidate bagged the Chattogram 3 seat with 1,36,298 votes while the BNP candidate trailed with 1,12,930 votes, a difference of 23,368 votes.
This time AL’s Mahfuzur Rahaman took the Chattogram 3 seat polling 1,62,356 votes while

BNP’s Mostafa Kamal Pasha trailed getting 3,122votes, a difference of 1,59,234 votes.

In 2008, BNP candidates lost the Cumilla 11, Cumilla 6 and Brahmanbaria 6 seats getting 77,924 votes, 102,450 votes and 58,794 votes respectively.
This time BNP candidates lost the Cumilla 11, Cumilla 6 and Brahmanbaria polling 1,329 votes, 1,133 votes and 1,329 votes respectively.

This time AL’s Muhammad Faruk Khan bagged the Gopalganj 1 seat polling 3,03,162 votes while BNP’s FI Sharfuzzaman polled 57 votes, the biggest difference.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Md Mizanur Rahman took the 2nd position in Gopalganj 1 polling 702 votes.

In 2008, BNP nominee had polled 9,986 votes against Faruk Khan in Gopalganj 1.

This time, Sheikh Hasina won the Gopalganj 3 seat polling 2,29,539 votes while BNP’s SM Jilani got 123 votes.

In 2008, Hasian got 1,58,958 votes while the BNP nominee had got 4,451 votes.

In 2018 election, AL candidate for Gopalgonj 2, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim got 2,81,909 votes while BNP candidate Sirajul Islam Siraj secured third position getting 286 votes. Taslim Sikder of IAB secured the 2nd position getting 608 votes.

In 2008, Selim got 186574 votes while his BNP rival got 7,643 votes.
