AL leader among two held for torturing teen

Police on Saturday arrested two people including Shreepur union Awami League former general secretary in Harinakunda of Jhenaidah for torturing a teenage boy.

The teenaged boy was tortured on charge of stealing a television set from Shreepur union Awami League office

The arrested are Shreepur union AL former general secretary Shahinur Rahman Tuhin, 50, and Kazi Babul, 39.

A police team conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo around 1:30am, said Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of Jhenaidah police.

Earlier, four people including Tuhin were sued for torturing a teenager Md Rana hanging him from a tree.

Father of Rana, 16,Omar Ali filed a case with Harinakunda police station against four people including Tuhin on Friday night, officer-in-charge of the police station M Asaduzzaman said on Saturday.

According to the case statement, on December 27 a television set got stolen from Shreepur Awami League office. Next day, Tuhin brought Rana into the office and tortured him by hanging him from a jackfruit tree on charge of stealing the television set.

Later, they handed Rana over to police, however, they found no proof of his involvement in the theft.

Video footage of the torture went viral on social media on Friday.
