Noakhali gang rape case: 1 more held

Police have arrested one more person accused in the Noakhali gang rape case.

The accused was arrested from Feni sadar upazila’s Sultanpur village on Saturday midnight.

The arrestee, Salauddin, 35, is from Modhya Bagya village of Charjubilee union under Subarnachar upazila.

Superintendent of Noakhali Police Md Ilias Sharif confirmed the matter of the arrest.

With this latest development, a total of eight culprits have been arrested so far, including the alleged mastermind Ruhul Amin. Among them, five were accused in the case.

However, three of the detainees were not mentioned in the case statements, but police discovered their involvement during the investigation.

Charjabbar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC Investigation) Ibrahim Khalil, also the investigation officer of the case, said: “A seven day remand has been requested for the seven accused, who were previously arrested.”

“Among them, Sohel, Swapan and Badshah Alam alias Basu will have their hearing on Sunday,” he said.

Earlier on Friday, police arrested two suspects, Jashim Uddin alias Jaishya, 30, and Hasan Ali Bhulu, 60, in overnight drives from Chittagong and the Double Mooring thana area of Noakhali.

On January 3, police detained the alleged mastermind of the gang rape – Ruhul Amin, an ex-member of Ward 4 under Charjubilee union and former upazila unit publicity secretary– and another suspect, Bechu.

On January 2, Detective Branch of police arrested two accused in the Noakhali gang rape case, one of whom is the prime accused, Sohel.

The night before, they arrested the third accused, Swapan, 35, during a raid in the Azadnagar area of Ramgati upazila in Lakshmipur.

A 30-year-old mother of four was gang-raped, allegedly by a group of local Awami League members.

The woman’s husband, who filed a case against nine people with Charjabbar police station on the evening of December 31, said the group of miscreants, wielding firearms, barged into their home around midnight, tied him and his children up, forcefully took his wife away from their home, and gang-raped her.

The husband claimed they attacked his wife because she had voted for the local BNP candidate in the 11th general election held on December 30.
