13 Rohingyas detained in KSA deported to Bangladesh

Saudi Arabia deported at least 13 Rohingya, held indefinitely by the kingdom, from a Jeddah detention centre early today.

Abdur Rahman, additional superintendent of police of the Armed Police Battalion at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said the Rohingyas arrived in Dhaka around 2:00am.

“They have admitted that they are Rohingyas but they have Bangladeshi passports,” he told The Daily Star.

Upon interrogation, they have been detained by the immigration police.

“Further decision in this regard now depends on the higher authorities,” Abdur Rahman said.

A London-based news portal covering events in the Middle East on Sunday reported that Saudi Arabia was going to deport to Bangladesh scores of Rohingyas, some of them having spent nearly five to six years in Saudi detention.

Many Rohingyas locked up in the Shumaisi detention centre went to Saudi Arabia on Bangladeshi passports, obtained via fake documents.
