Legal notice sent to CEC seeking cancellation of MP appointments

A legal notice has been sent to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Cabinet secretary seeking cancellation of appointments of MPs in the 11th parliament as it was formed without dissolving the previous one (10th parliament).

Advocate Taherul Islam Tawhid on the behalf of Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association, sent the notice by post office on Tuesday.

According to the notice, it is demanded the cancellation of appointments of MPs in the 11th parliament on January 3 and its gazette which was published on January 1, within morning 9:30 am of January 13. Otherwise, necessary measures would be taken according to article No. 102 of the constitution.

The 10th parliamentary election was held on January 5 whereas the MPs took oath on January 9 and cabinet was formed on January 29.

The five years of 10th parliament would be completed on January 28 and then 11th parliamentary election would be held, according to the constitution.
