30 injured in fresh worker-police clash

At least 30 persons received injuries in a fresh clash between apparel workers and police at Ulail of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place when agitating apparel workers from garment factories in Savar and adjacent areas took to the streets at around 9:30am, for the fourth consecutive day to press home their demand of wage hike.

Superintendent of Dhaka industrial police Sana Shaminur Rahman said they charged baton and tear gas shells to disperse the agitators as their agitation triggered public suffering in the area.

Road blockade  has created a long queue of more than hundred public buses and private vehicles on Dhaka-Aricha Highway, our correspondent reports.

Earlier, a garment worker was killed and around 100 others were injured in clashes with police at Savar and Uttara in Dhaka and in Gazipur as workers continued demonstration for the third consecutive day on Tuesday for wage hike.
