2 trains hit truck, rail link halted for 2hrs at Moghbazar rail-crossing

A train from Sylhet hit a truck at Moghbazar wireless gate level crossing in Dhaka halting rail communications for around two hours early this morning.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Driver of the vehicle left the truck after it broke down right on the rail tracks before the accident.

The damaged truck was left on one of the railway tracks in the area blocking the way, Yasin Faruk, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhaka Railway Police Station told The Daily Star.

The Kamalapur-bound Upaban Express from Sylhet hit the truck around 5:00am, said the OC.

“The train pushed the truck over to another rail line next to the first one,” Yasin said.

Then a few minutes later another train, Mymensingh-bound Balaka Express came from the direction of Kamalapur and hit the truck, Yasin added.

The wreckage of the truck remained on the line as a result of which train movements on the rail line were halted for two hours.

Rail communication resumed around 7:00am after authorities removed the damaged truck from the rail tracks.
