‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with the law enforcers in Cox's Bazar’s Teknaf upazila early today.

The deceased was identified as Mostak Ahmed, 32, son of Jakir Hossain of Jaliapara area in the upazila.

A team of police arrested Mostak last night. Following his information, police in association with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted the drive in Jaliapara area around 5:00am to recover arms and drugs, said Lt Col Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB-2 battalion.

When the team reached the area, cohorts of Mostak opened fire on the team to snatch him away, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left Mostak dead on the spot.

Later, the team also recovered 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and arms from the spot.
