Two policemen have been withdrawn for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman in Saturia upazila of Manikganj.
Sekendar Hossain and Mazharul Islam, a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector of Saturia Police Station respectively, were attached to the district’s police lines yesterday, Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of police in Manikganj, told our correspondent.
Further action will be taken against the duo if they are found guilty after investigation, SP Rifat Shamim said.
The victim filed a written complaint to the SP in this regard yesterday morning.
According to the victim, SI Sekandar borrowed Tk 1 lakh from her aunt five years ago but he did not return the money. To realise the amount, the aunt and the victim went to the police station to meet SI Sekendar Wednesday afternoon. But SI Sekendar took them to Saturia Rest House where ASI Mazharul also reached after a few moments.
Both the policemen kept the victim and her aunt confined in separate room at the rest house. The victim was forced to take yaba tablets at gunpoint. She was repeatedly raped by the duo and was released Friday morning.
Contacted, SI Sekendar denied the charges brought against him and said that he had no idea why he was closed to the police lines.
