Two alleged robbers were killed in a “gunfight” with police in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia early today.
Police identified the deceased as Mofazzel Hossain alias Mufa Dakat, 42, of Gorora and Mahabul Islam, 40, of Koipala in Daulatpur upazila.
On information that some robbers were holding a clandestine meeting at Katdah field, a team of police raided the area around 4:30am, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station.
Sensing presence of police, the alleged robbers fired gunshots, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a “gunfight”, the OC said.
After the gang manage to flee the scene, police found two bodies on the spot.
Police also recovered two Light Guns, four bullets and two swords from the spot.
According to the OC, Mofazzel was accused in seven robbery cases while Mahbul in six cases filed with Daulatpur Police Station.
