BUP student killed by bus near Bashundhara; road blocked

A student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) was killed after a bus ran him over at Nodda near Bashundhara Residential area this morning.

Deceased Abrar Ahmed was a student of International Relations at BUP and used to live in Bashundhara Residential Area.

After the news of his death spread, students and locals took to the streets and blocked the front gate of Bashundhara R/A, resulting in huge traffic jam in the nearby areas, police said.

They were chanting slogans “We want justice.”

Abrar Ahmed was crossing the road when a bus of Shuprovat Paribahan ran him over in Nadda area around 7:30am, said Sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station Sinthia Akter.

He died on the spot, the police official said adding that police seize the bus and arrested its diver Sirajul Islam.

Additional police forces have been deployed to bring the situation under control student.

The accident took place at a time when the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is observing Traffic Week to bring discipline on the streets.
