Minor house help found dead in Dhaka

A minor female house help was found dead at a flat in Uttara area of Dhaka this afternoon.

Protesting the death, relatives along with dwellers of a nearby slum staged demonstration in front of the house, police said.

The deceased Boishakhi, 12, hailing from Nogoan used to work as a house help of Rifat Ferdous, an official of a private organisation, said Ali Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station.

Rifat along with his wife and a child has been living in the flat on Road No. 18 in sector 3, in the area, the OC said.

Police went to the flat and found the victim hanging from the grille of a window of the six-storey building this afternoon, the police official said.

On information, the victim’s relatives, who have been living at the Bauniabadh slum in Turag area, along with over a thousand dwellers of the slum, went to the spot and staged a demonstration in front of the house terming the incident as a murder, the OC said.

They also set fire to tyres there and staged demonstration in and around the area for over three hours since the afternoon, the OC said.

The agitating people left the area around 7:00pm after police assured them of taking legal steps in this regard.

OC Ali Hossain said the deceased went to Nogoan on receipt of a death information of her grand-mother and passed around 10 days there and joined work yesterday.

The body of the victim will be sent to Dhaka Medical College for autopsy, he said.
