‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Habirchhora hilly area in Teknaf upazila on early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hossain, 28, son of Nabi Hossain and an accused in four cases.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police station, said on information about the presence of drug traders in the area, a team of police conducted a drive around 4:30 am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police found Hossain bullet injured.

Later, he was taken to Teknaf upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered three locally made arms, 2000 Yaba tablets and 12 cartridges.
