2 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.

The deceased were identified as Mahamudur Rahman, 28, son of Miah Hossain, resident of Ali Akbar Para, and Mohammad Ashraf, 25, son of Nurul Islam, a resident of Noyapara.

Six LGs, bullets and 10,000 Yaba pills were also recovered from the spot, said Pradip Kumar Das, the officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.

He said that their team conducted a drive at Moulvibazar of the upazila after being tipped off about the presence of a drug peddlers’gang.

"They opened fire as soon as the police team reached the site, triggering a skirmish," the OC said. "We recovered bodies of two drug peddlers after the gunfight."
