BNP calls for Khaleda Zia’s treatment at specialised hospital

Though its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), BNP is still rigid on its stance on shifting her to any specialised hospital for ensuring her better treatment.

“We’re seriously worried about her health condition. That’s why we want Khaleda Zia to be taken to a specialised hospital for her proper treatment,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He came up with the remark while talking to reporters in front of BSMMU’s cabin block.

Fakhrul, however, hoped that the government will put in its all-out efforts to provide Khaleda Zia with the best treatment at BSMMU by creating a good atmosphere.

“We want the government to create a healthy atmosphere so that Khaleda Zia doesn’t feel she is receiving treatment like other ordinary prisoner. We still demand our leader be shifted to a specialised hospital,” he said.

Mentioning that the medical board formed with the directive of the High Court directed the jail authorities to ensure treatment to Khlaeda with the consultation of her personal physicians, the BNP leader said they hope the authorities will follow the directive.

Asked whether Khaleda Zia was taken to BSMMU against her will, Fakhrul said they are not sure about it.

He said Khaleda Zia’s health condition could have deteriorated further had she not been admitted to the hospital today.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was taken to BSMMU for her treatment around 12:35 pm.

On March 10, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia reportedly declined to go to BSMMU for receiving treatment.

Jailer of Old Dhaka Central Jail Mahbubul Islam told journalists that the BNP chairperson refused to go to BSMMU for treatment though they had all the preparations to take her there.
