3 ‘Rohingya robbers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Three suspected Rohingya robbers were killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Habiber Ghona hilly area in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.

The deceased were identified as Nur Alam, 23, Mohammad Jubayer, 20, and Hamid Ullah, 21, residents of 'A-block' of Nayapara Rohingya camp at Hnila union of the upazila.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said that on information that a gang of robbers was depositing arms in the hilly area, a team of police conducted a drive around 2:30am.

Sensing the presence of police, the gang members opened fire, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police rescued three suspected robbers, who sustained bullet injuries, from the spot.

Later, they died on the way to hospital.

Police also recovered four LGs from the scene.
