7 killed in road accidents across Bangladesh

Seven people have been killed in road accidents in three districts.

In Lakshmipur, one person died—and three others were injured—when a truck hit a standby CNG auto-rickshaw in Temuhoni of Lakshmipur town, in the early hours of Thursday. The deceased, Dukhu Mia, was the auto-rickshaw's driver.

According to police and witnesses, the Feni-bound truck, coming from Raipur, lost control and hit the CNG auto-rickshaw on the side of the highway in Temuhoni area. Later, after police and locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, the on-duty doctors declared Dukhu Mia dead.

Police seized the truck and the CNG auto-rickshaw. The truck driver and helper are absconding.

In Bagerhat, three passengers of a human hauler died—and five others were injured—when the hauler collided, head-on, with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

The accident occurred on the Khulna-Mongla highway, near Chairman intersection area in Rampal upazila, around 8am on Thursday morning.

The deceased are Shohag, 35, and Sanjit, 45.

According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampal police station, Lutfor Rahman, the Mongla-bound truck collided head-on with the hauler and killed three people on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue, but are yet to impound the truck. The injured have been admitted to Jhanjhania Hospital in Rampal.

In Rajshahi, three people were killed—and 12 others injured—when a bus overturned at Mirganj Bazar in Bagha upazila, around 7am Thursday, reports UNB.

The deceased are Abu Hanif, 28; the bus driver's assistant, Manwara Begum, 42; and Badal Bewa, 65.

Police said the Rajshahi-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a cargo trolley before it hit a tree and overturned.

All three victims were killed on the spot, said Mohsin Ali, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station. The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
