15 killed in road accidents in Sirajganj, Sunamganj

At least 15 people died and several others were injured in road accidents in Sirajganj and Sunamganj on Sunday.

New Age correspondent in Sirajganj reported that at least eight people died and several others were injured in a road accident in Boalia Bazar area of Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj.

Hatikumrul highway police outpost officer-in-charge Abdul Kader Jilani, quoting witnesses, said that the accident took place as a Hatikumrul intersection bound-human hauler from Shahjadpur and a Pabna-bound bus of Pabna Express from Dhaka collided head-on, leaving eight people dead on the spot and several others injured.

Identities of the victims could not be ascertained immediately, the OC said.

All the deceased were passengers of the human hauler, said Ullapara police sub-inspector Nure Alam.

United News of Bangladesh reports that seven people were killed and eight others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a human hauler in Dakshin Sunamganj upazila in the morning.

Three of the deceased were identified as Md Sagar Mia, 16, son of Istu Mia, Md Limon Mia, 17, son of Fazal Mia, and Afzal Mia, son of Md Alim of village Durbokanda in Dakkhin Sunamganj upazila.

The fourth victim was human hauler driver Md Noman, 28, son of Ali Akbar of village Gagli of the same upazila.

A bus of Limon Paribahan collided with the human hauler in Patharia area around 8:00am, killing the seven on the spot.

Both vehicles fell into a roadside ditch, Md Harun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Dakkhin Sunamganj police station, said, quoting local people.

Police rescued the injured and sent them to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital.

Two of the injured were shifted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, the OC added.
