HC to bus companies: Pay Tk50 lakh compensation to Rajib’s family within 2 months

The High Court has said the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Sajan Paribahan must pay Tk50 lakh compensation to the family of Rajib Hossain, who died after losing his hand in a road accident last year.

The court found both BRTC and Sajan Paribahan responsible for Rajib’s death.

The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice MD Khairul Alam gave the verdict on Thursday.

The court handed down the verdict on a ruling directing the authorities concerned to pay Tk1cr in compensation to Rajib’s family.

On May 19, the court had set Thursday to deliver the verdict.

Rajib Hossain, a 20-year-old student of Government Titumir College, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 17; after spending two weeks in a coma because he lost a hand between two buses in Kawran Bazar.

On May 8, the Court ordered the bus companies to pay Tk1 crore to Rajib's family as compensation. BRTC and Sajan Paribahan challenged the order.
