A security guard was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at a spinning mill in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur today.
The deceased was identified as Russell, 45, son of Alal Uddin of Ulun village in Gafurgaon upazila of Mymensingh.
The fire originated at a unit of Otto Spinning Ltd in Nayanpur area around 2:30pm and it engulfed other units of the factory soon, said Akhteruzzaman, deputy assistant secretary of Gazipur Fire Serve Station.
On information, seven units of firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze several hours after of frantic efforts, he said.
They also rescued Russel with critical burn injuries from inside the mill.
He died on the way to hospital, Mahmud Hasan, duty doctor at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
However, the reason behind the fire and extent of damage could not be known yet.
