‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Jhaubagan in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Salim Ullah, 36, son of Najir Ahmed of Natun Pallan Para in the upazila. Salim was wanted in several cases including that of drugs.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-15 conducted a drive to recover Yaba around 4am, said sources at RAB Teknaf camp.

At one stage, a group of ‘drug dealers’ fired at the elite force, leading to a skirmish.

After the gunfight, RAB recovered the body of Salim Ullah, two firearms, 10,000 Yaba pills and seven bullets from the spot.

Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight.
