Rajshahi college student loses arm: Bus driver held

Police in a drive arrested the bus driver from Puthia Bazar in the upazila on Thursday in connection with severing of the right arm of college student Firoz Sardar in a road accident

The arrestee was identified as Faruk Hossain, 39, son of Atahar Ali of Gopalhati in Puthia upazila.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 7 am and arrested Faruk, the driver of ‘Mohammad Paribahan’, said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Police also seized the truck involved in the road accident from the upazila on Wednesday night. Besides, the bus was seized on Saturday.

On June 28, Firoz Sardar, a masters student of Rajshahi College and son of MahfuzurRahman of Nandigram in Bagura district, was seating at the bus after dangling his right arms in Katakhali area of the city. At one stage, another vehicle, coming from behind hit it, severing his hand from elbow.

He is undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

A case was filed with Katakhali Police Station on Saturday.
