FR Tower fire: HC orders Rajuk ex-chairman to surrender

The High Court has directed former chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (Rajuk) Engineer KM Harun and two existing officials to surrender before a lower court.

The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order on Tuesday, after hearing three separate petitions filed by the accused seeking anticipatory bail in the graft case.

The court ordered the trio to surrender within six weeks in the corruption case filed for forging FR Tower's construction design, Deputy Attorney General KM Aminuddin Manik—who represented the state in the hearing-- confirmed the matter.

The court also granted Harun six-week anticipatory bail and rejected the bail petition of the two Rajuk officials, Aurangzeb Siddique Nannu and Md Nazrul Islam.,

Earlier in the morning, the trio had appeared before the court with bail pleas.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Gulshan polices station in June, accusing the trio of committing corruption and forging design plan of Banani’s FR Tower.

On March 27, a deadly fire broke out at FR Tower, killing 25 people and injuring 73 others.

Barrister Shafique Ahmed and Advocate AM Aminuddin appeared for the petitioners while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the ACC.
