‘Drug trader’ killed in Meherpur ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug pushers in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Hamidul Islam, 30, son of Aroj Ali of Govipur village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Shah Dara Khan said on information that two groups of drug traders were trading gunshots, a team of police went to Govipur in the early hours.

They found bullet-hit Hamidul lying dead on the spot, he said, adding that the gunfight might have taken place over the share of drug money.

Police also recovered a shooter gun, two bullets and 12 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from the spot, the OC claimed.

He also said Hamidul was wanted in a dozen cases filed with his police station.
