Govt passing off dengue outbreak as rumours: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came down hard on the government saying that it’s trying to pass off the dengue outbreak as rumours due to its failure to stamp out the disease.

His remarks came on Saturday (Jul 27) after distributing relief items amongst the flood victims at Lalmonirhat.

“People are dying of dengue and the government is saying that it’s a BNP conspiracy,” he said.

Fakhrul said that BNP has become almost “destitute” with the government’s incessant torture, attacks and cases against the party leaders and activists.

“The government is dedicatedly torturing leaders with opposing views but BNP still continues to be in politics for the people.”

Fakhrul blamed the recent rise in mob lynching incidents across the country on the “lack of rule of law.”

“I don’t think there is any rule of law in a country where a mother is lynched in front of her child.”

The senior BNP leader reiterated that the Dec 30 national election was rigged and demanded fresh polls and dissolution of the current Parliament.
