Yaba peddler killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

A suspected yaba trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.

The gunfight took place in Teknaf's Baharchara Khurermukh area around 4:30am on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Ibrahim, 20.

After the gunfight, BGB recovered 20,000 yaba pills, a local gun and a fresh round of bullets from a CNG auto-rickshaw used by the criminals.

"A CNG auto-rickshaw was asked to stop for regular checking at Baharchara Khurermukh's BGB checkpost. However, the vehicle did not stop and its passengers opened fire on BGB men," BGB-2 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mohammad Foysal Hasan Khan.

"This prompted BGB officials to fire back, leading a gunfight where Ibrahim got injured," he added.

The official also said Ibrahim's associates fled the area leaving him behind. Later, he was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the duty doctors pronounced him dead.

A case has been filed with Teknaf police station in connection with this.
